Squirrel!

It’s been a long time since my last waffle and, let face it, who’s actually reading these? If you’re one of the 3 people who are, thank you for visiting. I hope you’re having a good week and the dumpster fire that is global politics isn’t taking too much of a toll on your psyche.

Not so long ago, I moved from Dublin to Cork where I swapped angry drivers, heavy traffic and city cycles for slow tractors (I am the angry driver now), fresh air and beach walks. It’s been an adjustment, but one that has been totally worth it living near the beach, seeing greenery from every window and not hearing the neighbours through the walls. Only the strange mewling cat at the window disturbs me now.

With all that nature and serenity, you’d think I’d be more creative and more focused. You’d be wrong, I’m less creative and have developed an attention span akin to Dug from Up. I blame my day job and my phone, in that order. However, the beautiful surrounding countryside finally lured me back into photography, albeit slowly, once the moving and settling in period was over.

Since my last waffle, I have left the country to visit Lisbon, Berlin, the Lake District, Montpellier, London and Sardinia. Some of these were short work trips so not much time for photography, but the Lake District and Sardinia offered some really gorgeous scenery begging to be photographed. The Lake District with its mountains, fells and lakes is like something out of a poem (well it literally is). It is steeped in literary history, full of pretty little villages and has the cutest, and smallest, steam train (for adults) I have ever seen.

Sardinia is a sunny little stunner with cobbled streets, lovely architecture, sweeping mountain ranges and clear blue seas. It was a much-needed break from the wet and cold summer of 2024 and provided plenty of beautiful photo ops to inspire even the most indifferent tourist. While travel plans for 2025 are going very slowly, I’m sure as the summer approaches and the sheer panic at not having sunshine on the horizon will prompt a flurry of last-minute bookings.

I’ll check in here in about two years for another waffle. Til then I will be working on making some improvements to the website so the Shop will be offline for a few weeks/months/eons. Depends on how much of a Dug I am this year. Squirrel!!
